UNIC Centre for City Futures
The University of Lodz is a member of UNIC (European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transformation), which brings together ten European universities that share a common desire to support the development of post-industrial cities. The aim of the networking meeting is to initiate discussions and activities aimed at transferring the potential of the UNIC Alliance to strengthen the development of Lodz.
As part of the event the concept of the UNIC Centre for City Futures, which integrates four missions of higher education institutions: education, research, innovation and pro-social activities will be presented. The Centre develops structural models of cooperation, enabling systematic and lasting connections between universities and cities. We will also talk about how, in the context of establishing the UNIC Centre for City Future, we can use the experience of the University of Lodz Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Studies (operating since 2015) as a unit coordinating the networking of researchers and people from outside the University of Lodz working for the city.
Science Hub competition – UNIC edition – a platform for cooperation on Lodz challenges with the participation of European partner institutions
The first operational activity of the UNIC Centre for City Futures is the UniLodz Science Hub – UNIC edition, i.e. a platform for cooperation between the academic community and the socio-economic environment. As part of it, a competition, which is to support interdisciplinary research cooperation, implement sustainable development goals and face the challenges resulting from the deindustrialisation of Lodz and the Lodz region, has been announced.
The implementation of projects within the Science Hub UNIC edition is also an opportunity to establish contacts and exchange know-how with UNIC partners.
Science Hub of the University of Lodz is a platform for the exchange of experiences and improvement of skills for all the involved parties, support for students in carrying out the first implementation research projects (including diploma theses), development of competences in the field of Design Thinking and project management, the possibility of implementing research results for research supervisors and establishing new contacts, including international ones, access to academic know-how for partner organisations and the possibility of cooperation with experts from various fields.
